Sissi’s Design Manifesto

I tend to use serif fonts whEn it comes to choosing a font for my projects. I have noticed when I was looking for fonts for this project that I had a hard time finding a san serif front.

In the beginning, my display and serif fonts were both hand written, which could be hard to read as a body type. Therefore, I changed my san serif font to one that is easier to read.

Here are three fonts I have chosen.

Garis Pro

Designed to bridge the gap between Dutch Fleischmann and neoclassical type, Garvis brings sturdiness and legibility, particularly on the web and at small sizes, without a loss of character or a sacrifice of aesthetics.

At display sizes, Garvis shows the subtle inconsistencies commonly found in traditional metal type printing. As the size is reduced, this detail virtually disappears so as not to become distracting at text sizes. Even so, it gives the text a warm, human quality.

Not only is it a pretty face for editorial and book usage, Garvis was built for linguistic and language support, Garvis includes support for all contemporary (and many historic), Latin-based Orthographies as well as complete IPA support.

Tilden Sans

Thoroughly contemporary, clean, and ready for work, Tilden Sans was designed by Delve Withrington to be no-nonsense but still stylish and friendly. Tilden Sans is square-ish with low contrast and a generous x-height. Curvilinear strokes like those in the capitals C or S, and many lowercase letters feature incised terminals offering a measure of distinction from other sans serifs, without sacrificing legibility. All of those features work in unison to make this typeface a pleasure to use and read.

Subway

The idea was to create a package containing prominent tag styles of graffiti strongholds like New York, Berlin and Paris. Shik (New York), Deon (Paris) and Etan (Berlin) came together to show the typical tag styles of their respective metropolitan areas. The fonts were digitized, spaced, kerned and programmed by Hannes von Döhren. The Subway Types are highly equipped. Each one consists of 4 alphabets (Uppercase, Lowercase, Small Caps & Swash). They also include ligatures and some specials like underlines and a huge range of accents for a wide language support. With the OpenType technology these features can be applied easily.

Manifesto

My manifesto is very simple and just trying to deliver the simplest idea. I wasn’t sure how to create the manifesto in the beginning, so I went with the factors that I would take into account when designing.

Here is my manifesto:

Design should be pleasing to the eye

It can be inspired by anything

from a sprig of grass

to a pigeon in the park

Pay attention to small things in life and remain curious

Story Board

After the manifesto, I created a story board to show how I want to create the animation.

I wanted to add a some illustrations to combine with the manifesto.

I also chose a piece of soft music that would work with the animation, which is Euphoria by BTS.
